What is the Jumbo Roll Slitting Optimizer?

This tool helps you determine the optimal way to cut large jumbo paper rolls into smaller slit widths with zero or minimal waste. It generates all possible combinations of slit sizes that exactly match your jumbo roll width, then uses intelligent algorithms to create a cutting plan that fulfills customer demand while minimizing extra reels produced.

Step 1: Enter Configuration

• Paper Mill Name: Name of the paper mill or supplier (e.g., Century Paper, International Paper). Used for reference in orders
• Product Name: Type of paper product (e.g., Kraft Liner, Test Liner, Corrugating Medium). Helps identify the paper grade
• GSM (Grams per Square Meter): Paper weight/density (e.g., 120 GSM). This is informational for tracking
• Jumbo Size: Width of the parent jumbo roll in inches (e.g., 100"). This is the total width available for slitting
• Min Slit: Minimum width (in inches) for any slit produced. Prevents cutting very small, impractical widths (e.g., 24")
• Max Slit: Maximum width (in inches) for any single slit. Limits largest individual slit size (e.g., 44")
• Even Only: When checked, only allows even-numbered slit widths (24", 26", 28", etc.). Uncheck to allow all widths
• Generate Button: Calculates all mathematically possible combinations that fill the jumbo width with zero waste

Step 2: Review All Combinations

• How It Works: After clicking Generate, the tool displays ALL mathematically possible ways to cut the jumbo roll into slits (ranging from smallest to largest) that add up to exactly 100% of the jumbo width with ZERO waste
• Combination Format: Shows as a list of widths (e.g., 24+24+26+26 = 100"). Each unique combination is a different cutting pattern
• Pieces Column: How many individual slits are produced in this pattern (e.g., pattern 24+24+26+26 produces 4 pieces)
• Quantity Column: How many jumbo rolls should be cut using this pattern (you decide later when optimizing)
• Filter Option: Use the search box to filter combinations by width values or pattern. Useful when looking for a specific slit size
• Zero Waste Guarantee: Every combination listed uses 100% of the jumbo width with no trim loss

Step 3: Enter Customer Demand

• Add Demand Sizes: Click "Add Size" to add each customer demand. For example, if a customer wants 100 rolls of 24" width, add that as a demand row
• Demand Format: Each row = [Width (inches)] × [Quantity needed]. Example: 24" × 100 rolls needed
• Multiple Sizes: You can add multiple different widths. The optimizer will find a cutting plan to fulfill all of them
• Available Jumbo Rolls: Enter how many jumbo rolls you have available to cut (e.g., 5 jumbo rolls). The optimizer won't exceed this limit
• Optimization Strategy: Choose from 5 different algorithms:
  • Master Intelligent: Best overall balance between fulfillment, efficiency, and minimizing extras (recommended for most cases)
  • Demand Priority: Maximize fulfilling customer orders with minimum extra reels produced
  • High Demand First: Prioritize rare/hard-to-find slit widths that appear in few combinations
  • Minimize Combinations: Use fewest different cutting patterns (production simplicity)
  • Balance Usage: Spread cutting patterns evenly across available jumbo rolls

Step 4: Review Optimized Cutting Plan

• Selected Combinations Table: Shows which cutting patterns will be used and how many jumbo rolls to cut using each pattern
• Example: Pattern 24+24+26+26 → Quantity 2 means cut this pattern on 2 jumbo rolls (producing 4 pieces per roll = 8 widths total)
• Demand Status: Shows which customer demands are fully met (green checkmark) vs. partially met or not met
• Extra Reels Produced: Any extra slits produced beyond customer demand. These are byproducts you can sell or warehouse
• Remove Extras Option: If extras don't fit customer demand, click to automatically adjust the plan to eliminate them
• Summary Metrics:
  • Jumbo Rolls Used: How many of your available rolls are needed
  • Total Slits: Total number of individual widths produced across all patterns
  • Waste: Trim loss left over (should be 0" because we use zero-waste combinations)
  • Fulfillment %: Percentage of total customer demand that's being met
